Why is there so much rubbish on telly?

Links

This web page contains links to other websites that are not under the control of and are not maintained by Channel 4 Television. Channel 4 Television is not responsible for the content of these sites and does not necessarily endorse the material on them.

There are a huge range of authorised, unauthorised and fan TV sites. The following are just the tip of the iceberg, and will provide links to a whole load more.

www.bbc.co.uk - the biggest, most popular, and one of the most useful. It includes...

www.bbc.co.uk/cult - includes a fantastic range of classic TV shows (including Morecambe and Wise and Doctor Who) plus 'Watch and Listen' extracts, which include classic title sequences.

www.broadcastnow.co.uk – website of Broadcast, the trade magazine for the TV and Radio industry. You have to pay to get the full magazine, but there is a range of free services including headlines about news from the TV world. Or just buy the magazine itself.

www.channel4.com – a mine of useful information, links, microsites for individual programmes, and forums.

www.channel4.com/ideasfactory – an inspiring and informative website for people considering careers in the creative industries.

www.itnarchive.com – a huge range of news clips organised in themed collections, historically or by news providers. Includes much fascinating historical material.

www.mediaguardian.co.uk – one of the most useful media sites ever. You have to register, but it's free, and worth it.

www.merseytv.com – website for Phil Redmond's Mersey Television, one of the biggest production companies in the UK, with hugely popular linked sites for Hollyoaks and Grange Hill.

www.sky.com – covers all aspects of the Sky Network, with numerous microsites.

www.thecustard.tv – very up-to-date online listings guide, with lots of additional trivia.

www.tv-ark.org.uk – a brilliant online TV museum where you can watch and learn the history of TV channel presentation, title sequences, adverts, public information films, and a whole range of generic programmes from the fifties onwards.

www.tvgohome.com – hilarious (and occasionally very rude) spoof of Radio Times TV listings devised fortnightly by Charlie Brooker, the TV critic of the Guardian Weekly Guide, and co-creator of Channel 4 satire Nathan Barley.

Also:
www.ofcom.org.uk – everything you need to know about the regulation, codes, practices and research about television.

www.skillset.org – a hugely informative new website run by the government-funded lead training body for the audio-visual industries.
