PROGRAMME 7: CHARLOTTE

Charlotte, a 17-year-old from Surrey, always wanted to be a vet, but recently she has realised that although it's great to have animals as pets, this is not what she wants to do as a career. She is in the sixth form doing sciences and geography and is clueless about what to do next. She has no idea what job she would like or what to do at university if she applies.

Charlotte is outgoing and confident and loves going out with her friends, especially to gigs. She loves music and her favourite subject is geography.

Everyone keeps suggesting career ideas for Charlotte, and she is getting more and more confused. She gets help from a life coach and a careers specialist, who set her a series of challenges to help her decide what to do next.

PROGRAMME AIMS

• To illustrate how to make a decision between two options
• To help students understand the difference between getting a job and having a real vocation they feel passionate about
• To highlight the importance of talking to people who are actually working in the job or on the course that a student is interested in
• To stress the role of individual careers support guidance
• To encourage students to really think about what they enjoy and about their skills and talents.
