PROGRAMME 2: CHRISTOPHER

Christopher is 16 years old and from Peterhead, a small town in Scotland. His childhood dream has always been to become an actor or performer. He is very bubbly, confident and outgoing and is involved in lots of amateur-dramatic activities in the town. He really cares about his appearance and image, and spends a lot of time on his hair and clothes.

Although he gets a real buzz about acting on the stage, and it is a real passion for him, he is worried that this is an insecure profession. He also likes numbers and is thinking of accountancy as a safer, better-paid option. He is attracted to the idea of wearing a suit but has no real idea what the job actually involves.

Christopher works with a life coach and careers specialist to test out his interests in acting and accountancy by tasting what the jobs really entail.

PROGRAMME AIMS

• To illustrate how to make a decision between two options
• To highlight the importance of talking to people who are actually working in the job or on the course that a student is interested in
• To help students understand the difference between getting a job and having a real vocation they feel passionate about
• To look at the reality of life as an actor
• To stress the role of individual careers support guidance.
