00.00 – 01.10
General introduction to the series.
01.11 – 04.16
We meet Kathryn, who loves language and literature and would like a vocation that uses this interest. Her main ideas are to become a journalist or a teacher, but she has no direct experience of either of these options. She needs to decide which university course to apply for – if higher education is the best route for her.
04.17 – 04.54
Kathryn meets David McQueen, a life coach, and Ann Duffy, a careers specialist, to discuss her career ideas, especially teaching.
04.55 – 09.03
For her first challenge, Kathryn has to teach a drama lesson in a primary school, for pupils aged 8-11. She surprises the teacher by using Romeo and Juliet as the theme for the lesson.
09.04 – 09.48
Ann and Kathryn talk about the image Kathryn has of journalism as being glamorous, and they look at why she is interested in this as her vocation.
09.49 – 14.37
Challenge two and Kathryn works at a local newspaper for the day. She meets the editor, who tells he about the job, and she is given the task of writing an article to a tight deadline for the paper.
14.38 – 15.38
Kathryn and Ann review her experience as a journalist and in teaching. Kathryn is still interested in both.
15.39 – 20.52
Kathryn has to teach a lesson in a secondary school in Glasgow for her final challenge. The class has been briefed to misbehave and Kathryn has to consider the discipline side of teaching.
20.53 – 22.43
Kathryn visits Glasgow University to find out about the English degree there, a route that would keep her career options open.
22.44 – 22.55
A summary of all Kathryn's career thoughts and experiences during the programme.
22.56 – 23.54
It's three months later and Kathryn has decided to do an English degree and keep her options open.
