Teens on Trial

Aims

The programme aims to give teenagers the opportunity to:

  • Discuss freely how they view shoplifting
  • Explore the effects of shoplifting on the defendant and the victims (shop owners)
  • The responsibility to decide on an appropriate punishment for shoplifting
  • An insight into the how legal system views shoplifting

Learning outcomes

  • The case will illustrate how quickly and easily petty theft can escalate and become a hard habit to break
  • The legal consequences of shoplifting
  • An understanding of how and why teenagers can get sucked into petty crime
