Channel 4 Learning

Sticks and Stones

Aims

The programme aims to help young people think about:

  • the harm that can be caused by the language you use
  • the effects of name-calling
  • the history behind a misused, fashionable word
  • the responsibility of celebrities in setting an example to their young public.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will:

  • enhance their understanding of other people's experiences and points of view
  • understand better how their use of language can lead to misunderstanding
  • be motivated to challenge language that they are unhappy about.

The programmes will be useful to support learning in PSHE and Citizenship at KS4 +. In England and Wales and Ireland, students following GCSE and AS /A level courses in General Studies and Sociology could also use the programmes to enhance learning.
