Before viewing

Discuss the following statements in pairs:

1. What image comes into your head when you read the following statements:
"I think rules are gay."
"All teachers can really do is expel you. I don't really care about that."
"The first time I got drunk at school was when I was thirteen."
"She punched a girl in the face at school."
"She wants to get in trouble with the police."
2. What rules do you expect parents to make for 16 year olds?
3. How much pocket money do you think a sixteen year old should have?
4. If you get pocket money what do you spend it on?
5. What is the most you have spent on an evening out?

During / after viewing

Discuss the following questions in groups

1. How different was Sophia to the image you had in your head before you watched the programme?
2. Do you think that Sophia is old enough to stay out all night? Can she be trusted? Do you think she should phone her parents to tell them where she is?
3. What sort of relationship do you think Sophia has with her parents? Do you think they care about her? Why don't they seem to get through to her?
4. Do you think that Sophia is out of control? What's the worst thing she's done in your opinion?
5. Do you think she gets too much pocket money?
6. Do you think that her behaviour is antisocial?
7. Do you agree with her belief that you should live fast and die young? Do you think that she really believes that?
8. Look again at the section when Sophia and her friends are on the street after the Henley regatta looking for somewhere to go, and she has to give in and go home. This shows that peer pressure can also be positive. Has this ever happened to you?
9. What might be the consequences of Sophia's behaviour?
10. How do you think she'll get on in her new school?
