Aims
This programme shows how four underachieving teenage boys benefit from targeted support to help them:
- develop a sense of self-worth
- improve their personal and social skills
- develop their emotional resources
- improve their relationships with others
- overcome their dislike of school.
Young people should:
- extend their understanding of the problems experienced by adolescent boys
- appreciate how these can affect personal relationships, performance and achievement
- consider attitudes and behaviour that help and hinder personal, social and academic development
- recognise that change is possible
- be aware that support is available for those who wish to change.
This programme supports learning activities designed to help young people, particularly boys, recognise and achieve their potential. It is of particular relevance in the following areas.
England- PSHE (developing confidence and responsibility and making the most of their abilities; developing a healthy, safer lifestyle; developing good relationships and respecting the differences between people)
- Sex and Relationships Education and the National Healthy Schools Standard
- Citizenship (diversity of identities and the need for mutual respect and understanding; developing skills of enquiry and communication, and participation and responsible action)
Personal and Social Education (social, emotional, spiritual and moral aspects)
Scotland- Health Education 5–14
- Higher Still – Personal and Social Education (Personal Awareness and Development, Social Awareness and Development)
