Make Me A Grown Up

MAKE ME A GROWN UP

PROGRAMME 8: LAUREN

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

00:00 – 07:38

Introduces Lauren and the mentors. Lauren has recently moved from a girls' school to a mixed boarding school. A disastrous blind date reveals that she is shy, self-conscious and awkward in social situations, particularly when boys are present.

07:39 – 11:58

First psychological exercise. Becoming a market researcher for a day allows Lauren to develop her 'meeting and greeting' skills and to engage in purposeful social conversation with males.

11:59 – 15:03

Makeover. Gok persuades Lauren to ditch her frumpy outfits and dress like a young woman. He shows her styles that flatter her fuller figure, introduces her to colour and encourages her to wear heels.

15:04 – 17:24

Second psychological exercise. Stephen uses role-play to help Lauren learn how to put people at their ease, draw them into conversation and create a warm, comfortable social atmosphere.

17:25 – 22:59

Final challenge. Lauren successfully hosts a three-course dinner party for five people, three of whom are male. Everyone has a good time and Lauren is pleased with the outcomes.

23:00 – 24:10

Reflection. Lauren has confidence and self-belief and now understands that boys are not a different species. She feels that she can achieve anything if she puts her mind to it.
