Activities

Before viewing

In a group or class, brainstorm the following and record responses on a board or on paper. Ask students what they associate with:

  1. fashion designers
  2. running your own business

Briefly discuss what students personally think it would be like. Record their responses.

You may wish to have groups of students focus on the following:

  • growing up an orphan (the history of Dr Barnardo's)
  • being of mixed race
  • challenging the status quo

After viewing

Key questions

Has the film made students:

  • more aware of something?
  • think more deeply about some issue?
  • think more deeply about what they want or don't want to do with their life?
  • change their opinion about the profession in any way?

Discuss and compare with their original brainstorm.

Activity (Class or Group)

Cut and paste different photographs from fashion magazines to create their own up to the moment styles.
