DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY 2
PROGRAMME 4: MICHAEL
ACTIVITIES
To view 4Learning video clips you will need Windows XP/2000 and Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11. Unfortunately, the clips are not supported on Macintosh computers.
The video clips may contain a few seconds of extra material at the beginning and end. We have therefore included opening and closing descriptions to help identify the intended scene.
Michael's mother and sister talk about his
behaviour
Clip 1: 04:53
– 05:55
- In: (Mother) 'The way I see it…'
- Out: (Sister) 'It all went down hill.'
What do you think of the attitude of Michael's family towards him? There is an obvious lack of communication at home. List the ways in which you think this situation has developed. What advice would you give to Michael to improve his home life? How could he be assertive without being aggressive?
Rachel works with Michael on his anger
Clip 2: 13:45
– 14:40
- In: (Rachel) 'I think this is the lowest it can get for you.'
- Out: (Michael) 'It gets smaller and smaller.' (Rachel) 'It does, doesn't it?'
Rachel is helping Michael to visualise his situation and this helps him understand it better. She draws figures getting increasingly smaller. What situations in your life have made you feel small? What strategies could Michael use to feel bigger again?
Rachel tells Michael about the difficulties in living in
an all-female household
Clip 3: 18:52
– 20:10
- In: (Voice over) 'After a successful meeting with the Royal Navy…'
- Out: (Michael) 'I've got no one to stick up for me. I'm fighting my own battles every single time.'
Who do you think Michael would like to stick up for him? How might he change after three years in the Navy away from home? Will leaving the area and setting sail on a boat for three years necessarily be the answer? What aspects of your life would you want to leave behind if you were able to sail away for a while?
