DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY 2

PROGRAMME 3: MIKKI

ACTIVITIES

To view 4Learning video clips you will need Windows XP/2000 and Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11. Unfortunately, the clips are not supported on Macintosh computers.

The video clips may contain a few seconds of extra material at the beginning and end. We have therefore included opening and closing descriptions to help identify the intended scene.

Mikki is truthful about her relationship with her mum
Clip 1: 04:17 – 05:15

  • In: (Rachel on photo of Mikki) 'Sounds like your family really changed.'
  • Out: (Rachel) 'Maybe it's about being able to tell each other what's wrong…' (Mikki) '…without causing arguments.'

Think of a time that brought about change in your family. Was it change for the better or change for the worse? What could someone have done to improve the situation? Is there anything you could have done? Change is inevitable and we all have to face it, but remember it's not just change for Mikki. List all the ways in which her mother has had to adapt to change in her life.

We see an unhealthy Mikki's daily routine
Clip 2: 07:30 – 08:45

  • In: (Voice over) 'Mikki has an erratic sleep pattern.'
  • Out: (Mikki) 'You won't see me anymore because that f***ing bitch…'

What do you think of Mikki's routine? Why do you think she chooses to live like this? What advice would you give her about her lifestyle?

Mikki and Rachel talk about the house move
Clip 3: 14:20 – 16:50

  • In: (Rachel) 'I think the house move is going to be so important for you.'
  • Out: (Mikki) 'Everything's much better than it was.'

Sometimes it's a good idea to make or draw something that physically represents an emotion. In this case, the house is a great opportunity to represent positive change for Mikki. What would you put in your new house and what would you leave behind in your old house?

Mikki and Rachel go to meet the England Ladies team
Clip 4: 20:20 – 21:22

  • In: (Voice over, as they enter the Marriott Hotel) 'Eight weeks on and Dr Rachel has arranged for Mikki to meet with the England Ladies team.'
  • Out: (footballer) 'I've learnt how to deal with that.'

What do you think of the advice offered to Mikki? Could you use that advice? Note how different Mikki is in this clip. When else does she behave differently to how she behaves with her mum? What factors do we need in our life to encourage us to start taking responsibility for ourselves?
