00:00 – 04:14
The rise of the internet has seen an explosion in alternative versions of the truth – conspiracy theories.
04:15 – 05:11
A Channel 4 survey of 1,000 young people found that belief in conspiracy theories is rife, and is affected by race, class and levels of trust.
05:12 – 10:55
UFOs
32% of young people think the Government has hidden evidence of alien landings. Tony Topping has filmed UFOs and claims to have communicated with aliens.
10:56 – 17:44
Diana
45% of people think Diana was murdered. Journalist Jon King believes the official story is a lie, that assassins tampered with the Mercedes, and Diana was killed because she could sway public opinion against the status quo.
17:45 – 26:31
9/11
58% of people think George Bush wanted 9/11 to happen. Conspiracy theorist David Icke believes 9/11 was planned by the Illuminati, a secret elite who plot to further their own power.
26:32 – 34:10
July 7 bombings
15% of people believe the British government planned the London Underground bombings. The words of both survivor Rachel North and journalist Mark Honigsbaum were misused on the internet to support conspiracy theories.
34:11 – 39:34
Psychologists Professor Chris French and Dr Patrick Leman run an experiment on 30 students to see if they can predict who will believe in conspiracy theories.
39:35 – 44:05
Chris French presents his findings to David Icke, but the professional conspiracy theorist is not impressed.
45:06 – 48:10
Conspiracy theorists can't be shaken out of their beliefs, unlike Rachel North, who thinks that the world is a naturally chaotic place where we can't always be in control.
