PROGRAMME 4: DAY 4 AT THE CLINIC

It is the fourth day at the clinic and things don't start well for Sandie, who has a panic attack in the middle of the night and tries to leave. Later she is reassured by her psychiatrist and encouraged to carry on. Tony receives good news about his health and is really motivated to give up alcohol. Vanessa continues to do well, but realises she needs to tackle her feelings about her mother. With their psychiatrists, each patient starts to think about how they will cope after Day 5.

PROGRAMME AIMS

• To illustrate the importance of talking about personal problems rather than ignoring them
• To show the importance of a support network of friends or family
• To look at the importance of having a goal in mind in order to succeed in coming off drugs or alcohol
• To demonstrate the types of help available in clinics
• To show that progress is not always steady, and that patients have good days and bad days.
