BRITAIN'S DEADLIEST ADDICTIONS

PROGRAMME 2: DAY 2 AT THE CLINIC

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

00.00 – 04.50

A summary of the patients' stories and a recap of Programme 1, showing what has happened to them in the clinic so far.

04.51 – 06.25

It is early in the morning of Day 2 and Tony is awake and feeling very nauseous. The effects of coming off alcohol are explained. He is given a tranquiliser as a temporary replacement to help wean him off his dependency slowly.

06.26 – 12.10

The presenter talks to Vanessa concerning her feelings about being in the clinic and why she takes crack cocaine. They also discuss the financial effect of drug-taking. Vanessa has a session with her psychiatrist who challenges the wisdom of her having a boyfriend who is in prison and a drug-user. They discuss how she feels when she takes crack cocaine and why she wants to stop taking it now.

12.11 – 18.44

We look at Sandie in much more detail and learn how she became addicted to prescription drugs. She explains what triggered her to start taking drugs many years ago, and the effect that taking them has on her day-to-day life now. If she stopped taking the drugs suddenly this would make her very ill, so recovery will be a slow process.

18.45 – 22.06

We see the therapy sessions involved in treating addicts at the clinic, including group therapy, in which they all discuss their feelings and problems together, and art therapy. We witness an art therapy session with Sandie, during which she reveals deep-rooted feelings from the past.

22.07 – 22.59

In a TV studio, two staff members from the clinic talk about Sandie's suppressed feelings from her childhood, and the link to her addiction.

23.00 – end

End of Day 2 and a brief preview of the next programme.
