MAGGIE: Susan Bailey picked a quarrel with me in the playground today. I was playing marbles when along she came with her friends and kicked the marbles away. She and her friends accused me of being the teacher's pet because Miss Bates said my handwriting was neater than Susan's. Later they took my hoop away and made fun of my shoes. I tried not to cry but it was very hard. And I fear this is just the start of it… |

MISS BATES: Susan Bailey did very poor work in her copybook, so I made Maggie Johnson show her how to do it properly. I could not help but notice that Susan gave Maggie a most unkind look. Later I thought I saw Susan and her friends being nasty to Maggie, but when I asked Maggie about it, she said it was nothing. Ah well, I expect it will blow over. SUSAN: Miss Bates made a fool of me this morning - her and Maggie Johnson together. She made me look at Maggies copybook. "That's how you should do it", she said. "You wont forget, will you, Susan". No, Miss Bates, I won't forget. Not never! Well, there's not much i can do to a teecher, but I'll get my own back on that Maggie - if it's the last thing I do. |
