What's the big idea?

Sounds are made when something vibrates. It might be a guitar string or a drum skin - or it might be the vocal cords in your throat. The vibrations are carried by the air, by a liquid, like water, or by a solid, and they reach your ear.

Many things vibrate. They may vibrate slowly, making deep sounds - or quickly - making high sounds. They may vibrate very little - so that the sounds are soft. Or they may vibrate a great deal - so that the sounds are very loud.
