What's the big idea?

A greenhouse provides the light and warmth that plants need. Can you live on air and water? Green plants can. They need light too - and some warmth. The leaves are the factories that produce the material the plants need to grow and flower. The roots anchor the plant and take water from the soil. The flower produces the seeds to make new plants.

If you keep plants in good conditions, they will grow well. If you meet all their needs, they will grow well. If you put them in a dark cupboard, plants will still grow. But they will be long, yellow and straggly as they search for the light.

Did you know? Without green plants, there would be no life on Earth. Plants make the oxygen you breathe. Plants make the food you eat, the clothes you wear - even the furniture you sit on.
