Running away from his vengeful stepfather, Gou Haoyou joins the Jade Circus and travels with them through China as they journey to the home of the great Kublai Khan himself. Gou rides the kite, flying up into the clouds always hoping that he might meet the spirit of his dead father. Gou learns compassion and courage as he faces the dangers of his unpredictable new life.
