 Handz On
Worksheet
Fast forward a few years into the future. You've just graduated from university or college and you are looking for your ideal job.
Part A. Applying for your job.
- Find an ad for your ideal future job either by looking in the jobs section of a newspaper or by searching a recruitment website on the internet. Go through the ad and make a list of all the qualifications, skills and experience required by the company.
- Now, take each item in your list and write one sentence identifying how you meet that qualification. If you don't have all the experience required, don't worry - simply pretend. (Remember you're marketing the future you).
- Now, put together a draft CV that markets your future self. Remember to include any work experience you've done.
- Finally, write a short cover letter to accompany your job application.
Part B. The job interview
- Join with three other students and practice your interview skills. Using the job ad each of you has identified, make a list of possible job interview questions. Now, take turns being the interviewers and being the job applicant. If you are the interviewer make sure you have reviewed the applicant's cover letter and CV and be sure to take notes so that you can let the applicant know what things they can improve on. If you are the applicant, try to sell yourself as best you can.
